Storyboard Text

  • I wonder what your average speed is.
  • I went at a speed of 4 m / s
  • Two kids want to find out what their average speed is on this bicycle.
  • I wonder what the velocity was.
  • The formula to find the average speed is distance / time.  The distance the boy on the bike traveled is 20 m.  The time it took was 5 s.
  • The formula for velocity is distance in a direction / time.
  • So, the average speed is 4 m / s.
  • We were moving North and didn't change direction, so our velocity was 4 m / s North.
  • The kids also want to know what their velocity was.
  • The formula for velocity is distance in a direction / time.  So velocity changes due to change in speed, direction, or both.
  • They knew they were moving North, so their velocity was 4 m / s North.
