Mom Luby and the Social WorkerTheme: Love and Family Relationship
Elijah and Arlethia (Puddin) are two children that lived with Mom Luby since their mother died. One day Mom Luby takes the children to the Welfare office to get state aid for them. In order to receive this request she has to pretend to be their mother.
Later that day, there was a knock on the door. It was Miss Rushmore , a brown-skined lady with straight hair, galsses, black high to shoes and dark blue atire. She was from the Department of Child Welfare , Bureau of Family asssistance
Miss Rushmore questioned Mom Luby to answer the questions left blank on the form. Mom Luby lied for the children's sake and tried to change the subject of the conversation. To the ending of the conversation Mom Luby is then told to fill out more forms at the office but unfortunately she is a very busy woman as she has alot of tasks to complete in her day.
Mom Luby decided that she wanted for Miss Rushmore to tag along with her on her daily duties. After two hours they returned and came into the back room. Miss Rushmore looked very unsettled so they gave her a drink of corn. She was very puzzled. She asked Mom Luby how she got more done in two hours than she (Miss Rushmore) has ever get done in to years. She proceeded to say that Mom Luby was not qualified. This comment made everyone in the speakeasy to laugh and make her leave.

It is evident that Mom Luby loves Elijah and Arlethia that she even has the courage to lie about being their mother so they can get State Aid benefits. Mom Luby is a person that will go above and beyond for the children because they have a love connection between them.
