  • The Indian Removal act was mainly signed due to the fact that the main obstacle was westward expansion. There was also a demand for arable land and the discovery of gold on the reservations made it very valuable land for white settlers, they quickly pressured the federal government to make it legal for the Cherooke nation to be removed. Andrew Jackson also approved the removal of the cherooke and was the president at the time.

  • On the 28th of May, 1830 the Indian Removal act was signed and passed by Andrew Jackson. Allowing the federal government to negotiate with the tribes located in what is now the modern southeastern United states. The main purpose was to get settlers particularly ones with agricultural jobs to move into the southeast due to the vast resources and fertile soil. But of course the native Americans did not want to leave their lands.

  • Despite there being a persistent resistance against the Indian removal act and the fact that it violated previous treaties that were practically a guarantee that the tribes would keep their land. The federal government still went through with it. Resulting in the start of the trail of tears.
