Okay kiddos so whose ready to learn about how to write the equation of a circle?
I know I am!
I am Mrs. P! Lets go
Good, so if the center of the circle is (2,2) and a point on the circle is (2,4) what is the equation of the circle?
Oh that's easy I just have to put the center point in the equation and i know the radius is 2!
Yeah just put it in the circle equation (x-h)^2+(y-k)^2=r^2
Pegasus & Emma!
So what did you guys get?
I got (x-2)^2+(y-2)^2=2
I got (x+2)^2+(y+2)=4
Im so sorry kids but both of you are wrong, you both had two little common mistakes so don't be sad I'll help you.
I'm soooo sorry Mrs.P.
Sorry Mrs.P I won't let you down next time.
So Emma, what you did wrong was that you had the actual radius in your equation but your suppose to square whatever the radius is in the equation.
Oh okay so I would need to change my 2 to a 4.
And Pegasus all you did wrong was that you needed to change your plus signs in the parentheses to minus signs because its flipped so if the number is positive it's actually negative and if it is negative it is actually positive.
Yes yes yes! You guys are such quick learners nice job!So what is the right answer?
(x-2)^2+(y-2)^2=4LOVE YOU MRS P.
(x-2)^2+(y-2)^2=4YOUR THE BEST MRS.P
And I would need to change my plus signs in the parentheses to a negative sign.
