  • The causes for imperialism: there are Natural Resources that provide economic power and allows for more production, expansion of territory so more military bases and with become a world power, trade and spread of religion.
  • Remember the Maine: On February 15, 1898,  a explosion sank the U.S.S. Maine in Havana, Cubawhile in the harbor killing 260 americans. The explosion was unclear of who and why it happened. The public blammed spain because they had cuba in their control. The Yellow Press stirred up the american public making them believe the spanish suck the ship.
  • Panama Canal: America tried to negotiate with columbia and offered to pay $10 million upfront with $250,000 as an anual rent there after. The columbians said not and wanted more money. Well the U.S. didnt like this  answer, U.S. found out the Panamanians wanted their independence and we helped plan a revolt. we sent a warship to make sure it was successful and they delacred independence in 1903 and we negotiated a treaty with panama. Before the construction we had to take care of the bug problem that brough diseases, we leveled landscapes to start construction path.
  • Japan Open Tade: On July 8, 1853, The American Commodore Matthew Perry led four ships into the harbor at Tokyo Bay, seeking to re-establish for the first time in over 200 years regular trade and discourse between Japan and the western world. This event made Japan a world power for trading with the world. 
  • Annexation of Philippines: The United States defeated Spain naval battle of Manila: guaranteed U.S. victory in the Philippines with the help of the philippines people. Spain sold the Philippines to the U.S. The philippinos didnt like being taken over by anyone even the U.S. and attacked them using Guerilla warfare. The Philippinos fought for independence for 3 years led by Emilio Aguinaldo. We are now allies with them.
  • Spanish-American War: The U.S. citizens & leaders were confident the nations power, the spanish had horrible rule over things. The Spanish had concintration camps in cuba, cubans had no representation, and liberties. The U.S. had investments in cuba and american journalists reported the atrocities and they used a stlye called called yellow journalism ¨remember the maine¨. The war was called the splendid little war because it was a 4 month war. The U.S. gained philippines, guam, and puerto rico. A famous battle was battle of san juan hill led by Roosevelt´s rough riders
