  • Harlem Renaissance (1920 - 1930)This literary movement was sparked by many African-Americans migrating North. This led to an outbreak of African-American culture through art, music, and writing. Langston Hughes and Ralph Ellison were two of many authors who attacked racial injustice through their writing.
  • Post-Modernism (1950 - Present)During this time, authors such as Arthur Miller, Edward Albee, and Nikki Giovanni liked to put their writing up for interpretation. They believed how people perceived reality was more important than the actual real life experiences.
  • Contemporary (1970 - Present)This type of literature had developed character's connections and relationships and often was meant to invoke emtion in the readers. Popular authors that wrote during this time include Tim O’Brien, Sherman Alexie, John Grisham, and Tom Clancy.
