- In the beginning of the story Kino and his family were very happy with what they had even though they werent rich. They were happy in the siuation that they were in.
- Kino and Juana went out on Kino's canoe. Kino dove into the water and went looking for some oysters so he could see if any of them had some pearls inside them. Deep in the water sat an oyster. With the pearl of the world jammed inside its mouth. Kino went back up to the boat and they couldnt believe what they just laid their eyes on.
- Soon after Kino found the pearl of the world everything changed. Juana started to realize that the pearl was not a good thing "Kino, this pearl is evil. Let us destroy it before it destroys us." As soon as the pearl was discovered people wanted to take it from kino. They burned down his hut, and rob him.
- A few days later Juana, Kino and Coyotito left their village because Kino killed a guy because he tried steal the pearl from them. So that night they began to walk and as they walked Kino covered his trails behind them because he didn't want anyone to track them. Kino changed drastically because him and his family were happy just the way they were until they got the pearl.
- As they were walking Kino spotted a few people in the distance and his initial thought was that they were looking for him, his family and their pearl. As the people approached Kino in his hiding spot he made a plan to kill the man on horse back and take his rifle then kill the other two people who were along side with him. "If I get the one with the rifle... I must get to him first, then I will be all right" said Kino
- Throughout this book Kino went from a very happy man who didn't necessarily care about being wealthy he only cared about his family. Then as soon as he discovered the pearl he changed very much because he wanted to now become rich and get money for this pearl. This caused him to do things that he would never do. For example kill people, put him and his family's lives in danger and beat up Juana. He turned into a very unpredictable guy.
