  • I'm here to sing hymns and psalms to relate to how hard it is to be a slave.

  • Church was very important in southern society. Slaves were allowed to come to church services.

  • I own over 20 slaves!
  • Planters were at the top of the social hierarchy in the South. They made up a very small percentage of the population. They dominated the social and political life.
  • I grow cash crops like tobacco and cotton!
  • Political/Cultural
  • The south had a long growing season, fertile soil, and a warm climate which attracted a ton of farmers. The south also relied a lot on river systems to transport goods.
  • Geographic features
  • The cotton gin, an invention by Eli Whitney, made production of cotton profitable and a bit easier.
  • The cotton gin helps a lot to produce cotton, I also don't have to pick the seeds out anymore.
  • I come here to meet with other slaves and share my joys, pains, and hopes.
  • Society was based on farming but religion was important too. Most churches were against slavery.
  • Slavery should be illegal in the United States.
  • North
  • South
  • We should allow slavery in the United States.
  • The main thing that divided the north and the south politically was the north believed they shouldn't own slaves and the south believed owning slaves was okay.
