Science: Natural Selection - Hailey Peterson

Storyboard Text

  • I'm a little confused about how does natural selection work exactly.. Could you possibly give me an example?
  • Of course! If you look closer into the woods you can see a horse. But, if you look a little harder, you can see a darker horse blending in with a tree!
  • Oh yes I do see that horse! But how exactly does that relate to natural selection?
  • Thank you for asking! Because it blends in, it has a higher chance of surviving compared to the lighter horse. When predators come around in the woods, the darker horse will be able to blend in with the trees, and hide from the predators. However the lighter horse won't have that advantage.
  • Wow that's crazy! But what does that mean for the lighter horses?
  • Sadly for those horses, they will slowly disappear and become extinct over time from their predators eating them more often than the darker horses. Overtime the population of the darker horses will overpopulate leaving them will the forest to themselves.
