  • Catalonia is a region in Spain who feel like their own country. They have 7.5 million people, their own language, parliament, flag, and anthem.
  • Catalonia
  • Catalonia wanted independence after the dictator of Spain suppressed their language. The dictator was overthrown, and Catalonia got some independence, but not enough.
  • On October 1, 2017, 90% of Catalan voters wanted independence, but only 43% showed up to vote. The Spanish police tried to stop the voters.
  • STOP
  • On October 27, 2017, The Catalan parliament declared independence, but the Spanish government overthrew Catalan leaders, and terminated their government. 
  • Independence!

  • Following that, hundreds of thousands of people protested for and against independence in Spain's streets.

  • In June of 2018, Catalan nationalists took back their region, because of their determination to be separate from Spain. Although all this change has happened, Catalonia is still a part of Spain.
