  • Most people couldnt afford food and went hungry. people would wait in line for hours just to get a loaf of bread and bowl of soup. that was the only food people ate for the day.
  • On October 29, 1929, people began to buy and sell their stock and prices began to plummet. in just 2 months, the stock market lost 40% of its value. several people lost everything they had.
  • Hoovervilles
  • several people lost their jobs. 25% of men were unemployed. there became bacllash against minoritys and women workers.
  • The dust bowl
  • New Deal
  • People started to become homeless, so they were provided with small homes made out of scraps. they called these hoovervilles. the houses were very small, dirty and close together but they were the best they get.
  • during a drought, the US suffered from severe dust storms. peoples live stocks were killed, and crops were ruined.
  • Soon, Franklin D. Rosevelt was ellected the new president. he helped create projects for people to get new jobs, like building bridges, parks, schools, etc. Over 100 new projects were created.
