Liza: - West African god who created the universe with his sister and controlled heat and strength.
Apollo: - Greek god who is the son of Leto, a mother who asked an island if it was safe to give birth to who twins there. The island said that Apollo would have to build a sacred temple there.
Tonatiuh: - Aztec sun god who existed as the fifth sun after the first four died out.
Re: - This Egyptian god's full name means the three stages of the sun - the highest point, the setting, and the rising.
Hou Yi: - This god resembles Heracles that both tried to shoot the sun, but the ten suns prevented the earth from growing. Hou Yi shot down all nine and saved one.
Similiarities: - all sun gods - all portrayed with great power - most dealt with the dying out of suns and saving the light
Differences: - Apollo became sacred when he was born - Liza became sacred when him and his sister controlled the universe - Tonatiuh became sacred when the fourth sun died out - Re became sacred when his body become components of the earth - Hou Yi became sacred when he shot down nine suns
Reflection: All of the sun gods manifest powers regarding light and strength. The sun symbolizes growth, so possessing these powers is important in the development of the earth because it allows nature to cultivate and strengthen. The paths to becoming sacred are very similar between gods - some involve birth and others involve a turning point in their lives that increases pride. I find it unique the meaning behind Re's name and how it represents the stages of the sun path.
