Genetic variation in the deer is that some are a tan and others are white.
The deer have offspring some inheriting the white coat and others the tan.
The deer with the white coat are easily spotted so they get picked off by wolves.
Since the deer with tan coats survived the wolves they reproduce and give their genes to their offspring.
Now that most of the population have tan coats, the gene pool has changed. More of the deer will now have a tan coat instead of white.
That's the cycle for Natural Selection.
