Soon the parents realized that Mr. David was also deaf and dumb. Now they were able to understand why he was making gestures. Suddenly the parents broke into incoherent statements of profuse apologies which somewhat they conveyed through gestures.
Sorry sir, we apologize for our words.
But Mr. David had not the slightest difficulty in understanding them as he could read their lips. Then he took a pen and paper and started writing something in it.
After he had finished writing, he handed the letter to the parents. It read -
There are schools for deaf and dumb people. I have myself been educated in one such institution abroad; and now I have returned to India to render the same useful service to others, by starting a school here. I have agreed to accept Promodni as my first pupil and that she could, in course of time, live almost as a normal life as any one who had the powers of hearing and speech.
Mrs. Bhandari laughed like a carefree girl. She gave all of them an extra helping of jam.She looked the happiest woman in the world.
