The Civil war: Timeline By: Jonathan McCoy
On April 12, 1861, Confederate forces bombarded fort Sumpter on the coast near Charleston, SC. The Union forces eventually surrendered, starting the Civil war.
On July 21, 1861, Union General McDowell clashed with Confederate troops, causing the first battle of bull run. At first, it seemed like the union would win, but as Confederiate reinforcements arrived, they overpowered the union and broke their formation, giving them the win.
In Confederate general Lee's attempt to push through the north, On July 1, 1863, they collided with The union army. This cought the confedirates off gaurd, and combined with well thought out tatics lead to a Major Union victory.
After contantly retreating and fumbling through virginia, the confredrites eventualy found themselves caught and after being seiged for a few days, general Lee surrendered to Union general Grant.
