  • IN CHINA DURING WAR
  • In 1839, China stopped Britain from selling opium to them and they burnt all of the opium they had from Britain.
  • CHINA SURRENDERS
  • People of Britain were very angry as selling opium helped them earn a lot of time at that time. The British declared war on the Chinese.
  • AT NANJING
  • The Chinese did not have good weapons, so they could not defend the attacks from the British.
  • ANGRY PEOPLE OF CHINA
  • China and Britain fought for around three years. The Chinese could see that they will lose, and so they surrendered and negotiated at Nanjing.
  • For the peace of China, the British demanded six million pounds of opium, to open ports for them to trade in and also the Chinese will give them the Hong Kong Island.
  • The Chinese people were disappointed, at the end of the war. They thought it was humiliating and that it made them look weak.
