  • Entrance of Fixed mindset
  • I know I won't have enough time to do all this work. It's too much... I cant. Other people's presentations are going to be better anyways.
  • Hey, Jacobi, why the long face? Is there anything I can do to help?
  • There's just not enough time for me to do all the work. I'm not smart enough to get it done or fast enough. I can't do it. I won't do it. I'm not going to succeed so why try or keep trying?
  • Explaining the Feelings
  • Listen kid, don't get discouraged, okay? It's going to be okay. Just take a few breathes. Would you like some advice?
  • Poor kid, he's got a fixed mindset.
  • Understanding the feelings
  • Mrs. Maddox, can you give me some advice? Will you help me please?
  • Try to persevere in the face of failure. It's okay to not do good all the time. There will be things you succeed in that maybe other people don't and vice versa.
  • Listen, a fixed mindset is almost like being a pessimistic and having a growth mindset is like being a optimist.

  • Jacobi is feeling overwhelmed and filled with anxiety about how much work he has to do for his class. The teacher sees how nervous he is and decides to talk to him, to help.

  • Jacobi explains how he has a huge project due in Science class in 8 days. The project includes a 6 page lab report, a visual aide and a 3 minute presentation. The teacher realizes he has a fixed mindset.

  • As the teacher is explaining and giving Jacobi advice he gets confused. He does not know what fixed mindset is and what growth mindset is. She tries to explain it to the high schooler, Jacobi by using a word that he can use to associate the behavior with to help him remember.

  • I think trying better is good. Plus now I have the courage to try harder and be better. I know I can do this because I DID IT!
  • As Jacobi and Mrs. Maddox are walking she reminds him of a few things. As they walk he heeds her guide listening to every word because he knows that the teacher is trying to help him with his studies.
  • Now remember failure is just a minor setback, however what you are doing is just exercising your brain and training it to be smarter. It takes time and effort.
  • After the student is done listening, he gets on his bus and starts to think about what was talked about. He thanks the teacher and gets on the bus. Later when he is home he tries to do his school work.
  • Jacobi finishes his science studies with a 86%, he is grateful he remember his teachers guidance.
