  • Growing Tensions Between the Colonists and Britain
  • Yes, right away.
  • We need to come up with a way to pay of the debt.
  • Here is your room
  • The Quartering Act
  • We can have the colonists pat tax on some items.
  • Great!
  • The Stamp Act
  • I've come up with a way to pay off the debt.
  • What is it?
  • By: Sarah Kearney Britain was making rules for everybody and the colonists did not like it. Britain was passing laws to pay off the debt from the French and Indian War. That was called Taxation without representation.
  • The Boston Massacre
  • The Quartering Act ordered the colonists to provide quarters for the British soldiers. The colonists were not happy about the law and neither were the soldiers. The colonists not only had to let the soldiers stay at their homes but they also had to supply them with food, fuel, candles, and transportation.
  • The Boston Tea Party
  • The Stamp Act meant that the colonists had to pay tax on items such as printed papers, cards, newspapers, and marriage licences. The colonists were not very happy with the law so they agreed that they would stop buying British goods. Eventually the Stamp Act was repealed because the colonists did not think it was fair.
  • The Intolerable Acts
  • The Boston Massacre started because the colonists were angry that the British soldiers were not leaving their towns and cities. On March 5. 1770 all of the commotion turned into violence. The colonists threw stones and snowballs at the soldiers.
  • FIRE!!
  • The Boston Tea Party was caused because Britain taxed the tea and told the colonists that they could only buy tea from the East India Tea Company. So one night the colonists dressed up as Native Americans and threw the shipment of tea into the Boston Harbor.
  • HARBOR IS CLOSED NO ships are permitted to come or leave this harbor
  • The Intolerable Acts were laws that were so harsh that the colonists would not tolerate them or accept them. One law was that the Boston Port Act closed the harbor so that the trade ships could not come or leave until the lost tea was paid for. This started the  first Continental Congress.
