Storyboard Text

  • In the year 1700 BCE a man named Abraham lived in Ur, Mesopotamia. At some point according to the Torah, the Hebrew Bible, Abraham made a covenant with God. In this agreement, Canaan would belong to Abraham's descendants.
  • Now may we leave
  • Yes, take the Israelites and leave Egypt
  • According to the Torah, the reason that Jacob and his family moved from Canaan to Egypt was because they noticed that Egypt had great supplies of grain. According to the exodus when Jacob began to have more and more descendants a new pharaoh, the king of Egypt, started to not trust them. According to the Torah the king made the Israelites, Jacob's descendants, do very harsh work.
  • We must obey the Ten Commandments
  • In the Exodus it says Moses was an Israelite who was adopted by the pharaoh's family. According to the Exodus, God appeared to Moses and told him to go and rescue the other Israelites. Moses went to ask the Pharaoh to let him lead the Israelites out of Egypt, but the Pharaoh did not let him.

Finally after the Pharaoh could not deal with the misery he allowed Moses to lead the Israelits out of Egypt. Now each year, Jews celebrate Passover to honor the journey from being slaves in Egypt to being free.
  • According to the Torah, the ten commandments were laws relating to ethics and worships,. The Ten Commandments were also the most important laws. God gave Moses a set of 10 laws, the Ten Commandments, God told Moses in order to please him they would have to obey these laws. God also told Moses that if these laws were to be broken, God would punish whoever disobeyed them. The first rule was the most important rule, it stated they must only worship the Lord, this was the idea of Ethical Monotheism,. The idea that there was one God who set down ethical laws. The Ten Commandments were important to Jews, Christians, and others because it stated that if people believe in God and obey God's laws, God will protect them and support them.
  • According to the Torah, the Israelites continued there path to the Promised Land after receiving the laws from Moses. Moses died before they got to the Promised Land, but his deputy, Joshua, took over and led the Israelites into Canaan from the east. When they first arrived one of the first cities they conquered was Jericho, they then went on to conquer many other city's. The tribes of Jacob settled in different areas, the tribes of Judah, Simeon and Benjamin settled in the South and others settled in the north.
