Storyboard Text

  • Introduction
  • Hi, I'm going to explain in depth details of the Civil War and Why it was important.
  • Cause of the War
  • One Event that I think caused the Civil War was the Dread Scott v Stanford case where he was told that he was just a piece of "property" which made people mad and eventually led to the Civil War.
  • Start of the War
  • The main cause of the War was Fort Sumter, the start of the Civil War was April 12, 1861.
  • The Civil War was important to almost all Americans because it would free people that were held against their will. Slaves (African Americans) were forced to work on plantations and listen to their masters. Once people seen how brutal it was they were trying to think of ways to get rid of it.
  • Union War Efforts
  • The Union War efforts were to end slavery and capture New Orleans they seen it as a huge trading port.
  • One of the main reason that the Civil War was fought was because of the Dred Scott v Stanford court case which was in the Supreme Court. Dred Scott was trying to find ways to get out of slavery the legal way. But the Supreme Court told him that he was just a piece of property who had no rights. Most people did not think that it was right for them to say that so they started the Civil War.
  • Confederacy War Efforts
  • Fort Sumter was in South Carolina and it was outposting as forgin land. On April 12, 1861 Confederate troops started to open fire on the troops at Fort Sumter. The fight went on for 34 hours then the Union troops surrendered which would mark the beginning of the Civil War.
  • Legacy of the War
  • The main efforts of the Union War was to abolish slavery. They thought that slavery was not right and they wanted to end it. The other effort by the Union army was to capture New Orleans and try and stop trades because it controlled vital ports.
  • The Confederacy and the South relied on slaves to keep their plantations producing crops and products. The Confederates burned almost all of their cotton to make sure that their enemies would not be able to get it. The confederacy wanted to protect the ability to have slaves rather than the Union trying to abolish it.
  • The Confederacy War Efforts were to keep slavery and not let it get abolished by the Union.
  • The Legacy that the Civil War left behind was slavery, Slavery is now over in the US and against the law. No one can hold someone against their will to work on a plantation anymore. It also left a lot of history that we are still learning about today and how slavery was back then. The Legacy also left a lot of racism behind whites and blacks are now together and treated equally.
  • The Legacy of the Civil War is now that slavery is over.
