A teacher of the law came to Jesus and asked "what must I do to gain eternal life?" Jesus replied by saying "love your God and neighbor" "how do I do that?" he asked and Jesus began to tell a parrable.
A Jewish man was walking along a dangerous road and was attacked by a thief he was beaten and robbed of his belongings including his clothing.
A wealthy Jewish man passed him and instead of helping him thought that maybe he had a disease or this was punishment for the man sinning and left him to die.
Then a Samaritan appeared and, though they were enemies, helped the Jewish man by cleaning his wounds and giving him wine and water to drink.
The Samaritan then put the Jew on the back of his donkey and took him to the nearest town where he payed to put him into an inn. He said to the innkeeper "take care of him by feeding him and bathing him and if there is need for any more.
"Which of these three do you think was the neighbor to the man who fell into the hand of the robbers?" The expert in law replied, "The one who had mercy on him." Jesus told him, "Go and do likewise."
