  • At David Jackson's House
  • I can finally go to a good school and learn things I can actually use.
  • At The Principal's Office at John Green Middle School
  • Hi, I'm David Jackson and I want to transfer here as a student.
  • What is a black kid like you doing here? You think that we would let a black kid be a student?
  • At Principal Green's Office
  • Sir, I can pay the tuition and I won't fool around. Please let me enroll here.
  • That's it! Kid, I'm calling the cops and you're going to court!
  • David Jackson had just won a $10,000 prize for best basketball skills, and asked his parents to go to the best middle school in the whole state, John Green Middle School.
  • At the District Court Near Los Angeles
  • So, you wanted to enroll in John Green Middle School, got rejected, and got arrested because you were black.
  • Unexpectedly, as David Jackson entered the principal's office, he was immediately yelled at by Principal Green. They had never heard of a black student in their school and would not allow it.
  • At the District Court Near Los Angeles
  • What do you have to say for yourself David?
  • That's illegal to refuse my admission because I'm black. Right sir?
  • Startled, David explained that he had qualifications and payment, but Principal Green just wouldn't have it and got so upset that he called the cops on David, and they arrested him.
  • At the Basketball Court in John Green Middle School
  • The police refused to believe that a black kid would have enough money for a wealthy middle school, so they took him to court where they discussed the situation.
  • Yes sir.
  • David protested that refusing a student because of their race, nationality, sex, religion, language, or immigration status is illegal, and the judge agreed with him.
  • David was cleared and was allowed to be a student of John Green Middle School despite the fact that he was African American. He enjoyed playing basketball for a long time.
