Storyboard Text

  • Japan colonization/ imperialism
  • Tojo Hideki
  • We are better than all other countries! We need natural supplies! WE MUST WIN THIS WAR!
  • The U.S. Steel / Oil Embargo on Japan
  • FDR
  • We must cut off Japan's supplies so that they can not get any more power.
  • Pearl Harbor, Hawaii and the Surprise Attack
  • Japan thought that their country was better than other countries and also wanted to take other countries over as part of Japan. Part of the reason for this was that Japan needed natural recourses, but they also just wanted more land for their country.
  • Appeasement to Hitler
  • Hitler, you can have Czechoslovakia, but please don't start another war. My country is still devastated by the first one.
  • When Japan was in the war and the United States was not, the U.S. stopped selling steel and oil,  to Japan. Japan needed these recourses during the war, and cutting Japan  off was one of the reasons Japan attacked Pearl Harbor.
  • FDR/ Date that Will Live in Infamy
  • Yesterday, December 7th, 1941- A date which will live in infamy-  the United States of America...
  •  On December 7th, 1941 the Japan launched a surprise attack on Pearl Harbor. They killed thousands of Americans and damaged the USS Helena, USS Utah, and the east side of Ford Island.
  • Processing Peace
  • The Munich pact that was signed between the French leader and Adolf Hitler promised Hitler that he could have Czechoslovakia. This was done to try and avoid the war, but really it made things worse in the long run. This was not the only time a country gave over part of its land or power to avoid going to war with Germany.
  • Sounds great to me!
  • After Pearl Harbor, the speech that FDR  gives states that Pearl Harbor was "A date that will live in Infamy." This means that it is a date that will remain famous forever for a bad thing.
  • After the War was over, there was a meeting where the soldiers from both sides met and shook hands. Some people in the war will never be able to forgive the other side for the pain it caused them. However, there was a large effort to restore peace.
