• I wonder how fast our tennis ball is going...

• Let's test it!  We can hit the ball straight and measure the distance.  We can record how much time the ball takes to go the distance, and then use the formula to calculate the speed.  ﻿
• We can find the speed by dividing the distance the ball travels divided by the time it takes to travel.

• Speed is the distance an object travels per unit of time.
• The two tennis players plan to find the speed of their tennis ball by using the formula, Speed = Distance / Time.﻿
• ﻿The tennis players found the speed of their ball by recording distance and time.  Since their ball traveled 9 ft and it took 45 seconds to travel, the speed of the ball is 5 ft per second.
