The government had to make citizens pat taxes due to the money they needed for the damages of the recent war.
Tennis Court Oath
The government was already very low on money due to foreign affairs and the queen spent money unreasonably. The Third Estate worked for and grew everything they had, but the government took most of it away because they needed the money more. With no money, they could not harvest crops, so there wasn't enough food for everyone.
Storming of the Bastille
The Enlightenment philosophies had a huge impact on the revolution. Many revolutionary leaders quoted Rousseau. Many people were upset with the monarchical form of government which the Enlightenment provoked that idea.
Women's March to Versailles
The Third Estate declared a meeting to create a new constitution. The door to get into the building was locked, so they went to an indoor tennis court; this is why it is called the Tennis Court Oath. The deputies swore that they could not end the meeting until the new constitution was created.
We cannot leave until we have a new constitution!
On July 14, 1789, about 900 Parisians marched the courtyard Of Bastille, an old fortress used as a prison to get ammunition and arms. The prison warden surrendered after four hours of fighting. The Parisians cut off the wardens head and demolished Bastille.
On October 5, thousands of Parisian women marched to Versailles because the Louis XVI did not accept the National Assembly decrees. They brought broomsticks, pitchforks, and pistols. They wanted to talk to the king since their children and families had no food. The women forced him to accept the new decree.
