The Monsters Are Due on Maple Street Theme: People Will Turn on You Quickly
I don't know what is happening.
I... I didn't know!!
there are monsters!!
In "The Monsters are Due on Maple Street" by Rod Sterling, one of the main themes is that people will turn on you very quickly. One of my pieces of evidence is when Les Goodman's car goes off while all of the power is off. Everyone starts turning on him because someone said that there are aliens living among them. They get mad at him because he is the only one with power and they think he is different. My second piece of evidence is when everyone gets mad at Tommy, a 14 year old boy. They get mad at him because he screams out that there are monsters among the people of Maple Street. Later in the story when someone gets convicted of being a monster, they blame it on Tommy and everyone turns on him. My third and last piece of evidence is when everyone turns on Charlie because he shoots and kills their neighbor who was going to find out what was happening with the power. Everyone turns on him because they think he killed the neighbor because Charlie is a monster. These are my pieces of evidence that I believe support my main theme.
Evidence 1: In this scene... people turn on Les Goodman when his car turns on, they get mad at him because someone pointed out that there were monsters on maple street and his car was the only one that worked while power was out.
Evidence 2: In this scene... people turn on Charlie because he shot one of his neighbors on maple street. He shot the man because he thought the figure was one of the monsters among them. This happened when power was out.
Evidence 3: In this scene... people turn on the 14 year old boy named Tommy. The neighbors of maple street turn on Tommy because he pointed out that there were monsters among them and when Charlie is being accused he blames it on Tommy then everyone starts blaming everything on everyone and it creates a big ruckus. This happened when the power was out.
