"The next time I see you, either you stand with us or will find some to take of your body
Aamir's Story: My name is Aamir and I live in a small house with my big family,my two daughters,my wife,my parents,my siblings and their families.Yeah, I know, a lot of people.
Aamir: We can't stay here anymore we have to go to the U.S and make a better life for the family...but mostly for the kids...don't you want that? Wife: Of course I do!...but we don't really have the money. Aamir: We can talk more in the morning when I get back.
The next morning I was walking back from the store and I was stopped by the Freedom Army. They stopped me and tried to recruit me. I refused and that meant certain death if I run into them again in the future.
I returned home and gathered my family and all of our belongings and left to Lebanon. In Beirut, me and my family were able to obtain visas to come to Thailand. I have often said, "The greatest challenge is being in Thailand without a Visa." The issue can easily put us in jail.
In 2012 I heard of the organization called the AAT (Asylum Access Thailand) and found some assistance with my asylum claim. AAT prepared me for my first assisted testimony and supporting legal brief to submit to the UNHCR (United Nations High Commissioner For Refugees). They helped me prepare for my Refugee Status Determination interview. Fortunately , both my family and I were granted Refugee Status.
As as a recognized refugee, my family and I can live more at ease in their new home. "Since I got my refugee status, I've been so relieved. Now the future is clear for for my family, Especially my kids."
