Storyboard Text

  • Exposition: Every year on June 27, the village holds a lottery where one person will win.  The head of the household from each family come up to draw from the black box. 
  • Adams, please draw a card from the black box.
  • Conflict: Whenever everybody is drawing their cards from the black box, they are really nervous, because every year, the person that draws the card with the black circle on it, dies. 
  • They use stones to kill the person. 
  • Rising Action: The heads of families, the heads of households in each family, and the members of each household in each family came up and drew a card from the black box. 
  • Adams, Hutchinson, Delacroix, Anderson, Bentham. 
  • Climax: After everyone had drawn their cards from the black box, they flipped their cards over. There was utter silence, but then word got around that Tessie drew the card with the black dot. 
  • Falling Action: Tessie was telling everyone in the village that the lottery wasn't fair, but everybody was grabbing stones. 
  • "It isn't fair, it isn't fair!"
  • Resolution: The villagers start throwing stones at Tessie as she's saying it isn't fair. A stone hits Tessie in the head and Old Man Warner is telling everybody to join in. Tessie died from getting hit in the head. 
  • "It isn't fair, it isn't fair!"
  • Tessie was hit in the head with a stone. 
  • "Come on everybody."
