Storyboard Text

  • The giver tries to explain the terms snow, sled runners, and downhill, but Jonas does not understand.
  • Or a sled? Runners? Does the term downhill mean anything to you?
  • You don't know what snow is, do you?
  • The Giver begins to give Jonas the memory of snow.
  • This won't hurt... I am now going to give you the memory of snow.
  • Jonas experiences the memory of riding a sled downhill in the snow.
  • This must be what The Giver meant!
  • Jonas experiences the memory of warfare and is frightened by the experience.
  • WATER! I NEED WATER!
  • No wonder this memory is torturing The Giver...
  • Jonas experiences the Christmas memory and learns about love and family. He is very conspicuous about this memory, it is different from the others before.
  • They are a family... a family that loves one another.
  • Jonas realizes that the memories from generations before are important to the community.
  • I am reminded sometimes that, "My job is important and has enormous honor." (Lowry 76) When I think of this, I can tell how important the memories that I receive really are.
  • The good and bad memories gives us wisdom to help the community.
