Excuse me, I am very sick and I need to see a doctor. I couldn't find a non segregated hospital.
I will not help you. You are black, we don't help colored people.
I wasn't able to go to the hospital today. So many of the doctors are radical. They said they don't and will not help colored people.
Its so unfair. I didn't think that Reconstruction would result to this! Didn't Lincoln give the Southerners amnesty?
Am I able to vote today?
Didn't you hear the 15 amendment was passed? Only men can vote, not you sorry.
I am Isabel. My family and I expierence segregation and discrimination daily. My mom and dad were Freedmen therfore we get treated like a nobody. Even though the 14 amendment was passed, it dosent seem like I have much equal rights.
As you can see, most blacks dont get treated equally. A major effect of Reconstruction was that the 13 amendment was passed.I finally thought that maybe African Americans could get freedom and equality until the Southerners passed Black Codes and Jim Crow laws . Both of those things restricted our freedom and rights even more.
Today was voting day, and I thought that I could vote until I realized the 15 amendment was passed. Apparently only men could vote if they passed the literacy test and payed the poll tax. Why cant all African Americans have the freedom to do certain things, like voting?
