The exposition is when a lady named Mary Maloney is waiting for her husband to get home. Mary is happy because she will be able to see her husband when he arrives. When her husband named Patrick arrives from work he seems very off and distant. This starts to worry Mary but at the same time she starts to thin k about the love she has for him. The couple planned on eating dinner when Patrick got home as usual.
The rising action is when Mary walks to the cellar to get the food they plan on eating for dinner. Mary decides on a leg of lamb. When patrick hears his wife walking back he gives her attitude and rudeness. Patrick states that hes going out for dinner in a very rude tone. This is strange because prior to this situation he claims he didn't want to eat. Patrick then turns his back towards his wife.
The climax is when Mary suddenly swings the lamb leg through the air and hardly onto her husband's head. This action that Mary made surprisingly killed her husband Patrick. This really catches the reader off guard because Mary claimed to love her husband so much. This was very sneaky of Mary to sneak up on her husband the way she did. Patrick's attitude really triggered this overall situation.
The falling action is when Mary then decides to make up a alibi. Mary goes to the grocery store so that when she comes back home it looks like she had no clue that her husband has been killed. When Mary arrives home she calls the police over to investigate the scene. Mary puts on a act to make these officers believe everything shes saying. The officers were convinced. Mary tells them that eating that lamb leg would be doing her a favor.
The conclusion is when the police men decide to eat the lamb. While eating the lamb they disscused the murder weapon of the whole situation. The police men say how the murder weapon is probably right under their noses. Meanwhile, Mary was in the other room and started giggling after their statement.
Dramatic Irony is represented when it comes to the murder weapon and how it was used. The reader knew more of what was happenening and how the murder weapon could be "right under their noses" which it is, but that's something only the audience knows. Foreshadowing is represented when Patrick returns home from work and he is moody and rude along with drinking a little more than he usually does in the evening.
