When Mexico won independence against Spain in 1821, they controlled a land that is now called Texas. The land was mostly populated with Tejanos which were Mexicans who claimed Texas as their home.
Texas Declares Its Independence
Because of the American settlers not following Mexico's rules, conflict grew between them. Which, caused One of the Mexican leaders, Antonio Lopez de Santa Anna, to take an army into Texas to punish the rebels.
The Lone Star Republic
Santa Anna's army of several thousand arrived to Texas, they came face to face with what seemed to be a barricaded building called The Alamo. The Texans, with their army of 180 soldiers, tried to defend it with all their might. Unfortunately, on March 6, a Mexican cannon blasted through the Alamo's walls.
