"We have come down close to the river,in a wide valley." Looking at dad, he seems to be in a lot of pain. He is groaning and is unable to open his eyes. I drag him from his seat. Hours pass and he is still unresponsive, it looks as though his leg may be broken. I can’t recall a lot about the crash, only dad telling me to hang on and the treetops rushing past. I have been for a look around but nothing. I just want to go home. The boy is very overwhelmed and frightened as his father is unwell and he stranded in a place with no way to get home.
Making The Raft
Mozzies everywhere! Dad was restless during the night! I looked through the plane and found the first-aid booklet, it I said should I make a drink for my dad. I took an empty water bottle to the river. I had filled the water bottle when, I heard a swish then something landing in the river. “I didn’t wait to find out what it was” Later: “A plane flew directly overhead just before dark.' ' hurried as fast as I could, but it had already passed by the time I splashed out into the river.” The boy was frightened when he heard the splash, but still desperately wanted to be saved.
Morning came, we both needed food. The whole morning I spent looking for food! All I found were some dry pods and green fruits .“Yet there are birds everywhere.” Heaps of birds were flying above, they have to eat something!Pm: When attempting to make fishing gear dad woke and smiled. "I don't feel lonely anymore.' I finally started fishing as the sun went down. I caught a fish! The boy was starting to really to become comfortable with the rainforest.
I dug a hole in the ground and emptied the drums from the plane. Using the drums I was able to make the raft float. Tying the drums wasn't that easy. I didn't finish the raft till late, so I haven't had the chance to test it out yet. “That may be just as well, because when I clambered out along the tree to start fishing,I saw the crocodile.” Only the yellowish eyes made it obvious. We may be well and truly on our way home. the boy feels a sense of accomplishment and success.
In the distance we heard a clacking noise. It got closer and as we made our way down to the raft. The helicopter was above our heads. Two men were slowly lowered through the thick canopy. They stood in amazement. Filthy, blood stained clothes and faces smeared with dry mud we stood "If you ask me,"one of them said with a grin,"it's about time you two returned to the future." We were overjoyed to be rescued. The Boys over the moon with joy as he is returning home.
