He looked a bit dark... and looked at us as if he was about to have us beheaded. P.g 33 when Hussein first meets Bruce and Pearl his past overpowers him and is still trying to get used to his new country. he starts off a bit skeptical about his new "home" but starts to learn new things with his friends.
I'm a soldier... p.g 34 This is a turning point in the story because we start to see insight into Hussein's life as a soldier. when Bruce attacks Hussein, he doesn't move at all and is in a way used to it. At this point it is hard to see if he is proud and sad about being a soldier or ashamed and traumatized, we don't know but after this day Hussein opens up to his friends more.
Hussein was at the plant nursery... saw him running his fingers over a small Mandarin tree... he couldn't believe it was there... listening to the leaves... "Hi Shah"...his cheeks were shining...like wet or something P.g 35 this part of the story shows how Hussein is overwhelmed by what he is going through at this time. It also lets us understand a bit more into his background and past.
Went to Shah's Yesty... p.g 36 this was quite unexpected for pearl and their friends but Bruce had been thinking about it a lot. he talked about only seeing a few photos in the house of what Bruce thinks are Hussein's parents. Hussein really starts to change as a character as he lets Bruce into his life outside of school
one afternoon she was hit by a truck...before we heard about it Suzy was dead...the Shah walked up to her...squeezed her hand...she put her hand on his P.g 37 When Pearls sister dies Hussein seems to understand exactly what pearl is going through. Through his journey he realises that his new friends are trustworthy and friendly towards him. Even when him and his friends saw his city on the news he knew there was nothing he could do, he slowly lets go of his traumatising past.
