This was day to day activity in El Salvador. El Salvador isn't a very safe place to live because it has lots of criminal gangs. El Salvador has the highest homicide rates in the world.
I'm so hungry!
Valeria is a woman who lives in El Salvador with her son Alejandro who is 18 and her daughter who is 12.
Valeria's son had a dream to be someone in life. He wanted to get a good education and get a job. Valeria says, "My son told me, ‘Mom, I want to be somebody in life. I want to move forward here and find a good job and be educated."
They got on the next freight train towards Mexico. They had to jump from train to train to get to Mexico which was to dangerous for her daughter. Valeria had to leave her daughter home with her mother. They were starved because there was nothing to eat.
When they got to Mexico they had to hide in the grass so the people who unloaded the heavy crates could not see them. One breath could give them away.
They were starved from the long days and nights in the train. They found a nearby work site that had trashcans with leftover food from the workers.
