Storyboard Text

  • Suspense is keeping someone in an anxious uncertainty about something
  • Humor can be found in many ways like, pacing, irony, outrageous simile's/ metaphors, a characters voice and the difference in belief and actual ability to name a few.
  • We don't have any Charles' in the kindergarten.
  • WHAT!!  LAURIE!!!
  • A motif is a recurring element within a story. There can be multiple motifs in a story.
  • "Dublin lay enveloped in darkness but for the dim light of the moon" This creates a sense of suspense because it reveals that very little can be seen and that something could pop up anywhere.
  • Contextual symbolism is something which would only make sense if you read the story it is from.
  • I was supposed to be a scarlet ibis.
  • "We don't have any Charles' in the kindergarten" This is an example of pacing which is the delivery at a particular moment which makes the sentence funny. Pacing is one of the many ways humor is created.
  • Universal Symbolism is a symbol which is widely known to everyone and not specific to a passage
  • "More reports of intrusion" "Latest armed robbery" "A woman was murdered in broad daylight" "There were riots" "There were many burglaries" These are all from "Once Upon a Time" and portray a motif of crime because it is recurring constantly through out the passage. These are but a few examples from said passage.
  • Characterization comes in two different forms; direct and indirect. both develop character just through a different way
  • "Sheltering my fallen scarlet Ibis" This is a representation of contextual symbolism because without reading the story you wouldn't realise that the narrator is comparing Doodle to the Scarlet Ibis which he found dead on the ground after the storm.
  • Green is often thought to represent money or wealth. It isn't something which is specific to  book, it is world wide.
  • "Show honorable intention" is direct "Ulrich Von Gradwitz, snared in his stolen forest. There's real justice for you" is indirect.  The first quote is quite obvious to the character trait being portrayed but the second one not so much. the second one shows that he is bitter about Ulrich owning the forest.
  • People Characterize as an old grumpy person because of how I dress.
