Montresor is upset with Fortunato, and he wants to seek revenge. Fortunato is proud of his knowledge of wine, which Montresor plans to prey on.
During the carnival season in Italy, Montresor bumps into Fortunato. Montresor says he has Amontillado and needs to make sure it's real. Fortunato offers to go with Montresor to the Amontillado.
Montresor lures Fortunato into the catacombs. Montresor continously says he can leave because of his cough, making Fortunato wanting to come more. Montresor gives Fortunato more wine to stay intoxicated.
Ding, Ding, DIng!
There is no Amontillado in the catacombs, and Montresor's plan is almost done. He chains Fortunato to the walls of the catacombs. Realizing what's going on, Fortunato screams, but Montresor ignores him.
Montresor builds a wall, trapping Fortunato in the catacombs forever. Fortunato stops screaming, and Montresor throws the torch to the ground.
Montresor walks away, only hearing the jingling bells on Fortunato's costume. He replaces the old bones around the catacombs. No one has found the body for 50 years.
