  • Setting: A small secluded neighborhood on a river between the states of Hampshire and Vermont during the 1960's to 1970's. The main character of the story has a crush on a older next door neighbor ( named Shelia Mant ) and asks her to go to a concert with him.The main character insists on taking his canoe instead of driving 
  • Climax
  • The Conflict to the story is that the narrator brought along his fishing rod and had a fish on it and was trying to hide it.
  • Falling Action
  • The Rising Action is when the main character is trying to get Shelia to fall for him.
  • Resolution
  • During the trip to the concert the main character instinctively brings along his fishing pole but later figures out that Shelia doesn't like fishing whatsoever. Then he feels a tug on his line, which had been out since before he picked up Shelia. The main character the has to decide whether to catch the giant bass or keep the girl that he likes.
  • The Falling Action is when they get to the concert and the main character realizes that Shelia just used him to go to the concert and meet up with her dude friend from school. 
  • The story ends with the main character realizing that he made a huge mistake giving up something he was passionate about for such a selfish person.
