When the war started, there was too much men who left home to fight. Jobs were open and gave women a chance to do jobs that only men could've done. Women contributed in many ways, like growing crops and sending it oversea for the military.

In the Battle of Stalingrad, (1942) the Germans and the Soviets were determined to take over Stalingrad. But as the fighting continued, the German supplies began to run desperately low as winter began. The Germans were forced to fight without new soldiers or new supplies. The fighting ended in the Germans retreating to save the rest of their troops.

In the war, a strategy called "island hopping" was used. This strategy was taking over the important islands needed for strength in position instead of all the islands the Japanese held.

Even with lots of casualties for Japan, the Japanese kept on fighting. The Allies had a way of ending the war, a nuclear bomb. This was called the Manhattan Project and ended up being the first nuclear bomb to be dropped on a country.

After six years, in 1945, August 15th, the war was over. With more than 50 million people dead, and others left without food and shelter, it was the U.S's job to rebuild the destruction that they caused.
