Storyboard Text

  • One day, a fragment of basalt appeared in a sandy and dry environment.
  • A sudden storm arrived and gusts of wind eroded the basalt rock across different landscapes.
  • The piece of basalt then fell into a swamp and sunk to the very bottom where it was soon joined by other little sediments of sand and gravel
  • From there the piece of basalt is under the sea and has been there for a long of time and started to change as it continues to be compressed and crushed with sediments.
  • The basalt mixes with other minerals and transforms into a conglomerate sedimentary rock.
  • Overtime,  the basalt has sunken down within the Earth, close to the bottom of the Earth's crust and heats up while still being compacted.
  • The process of this heat and pressure begins to change the basalt into amphibolite.
  • The basalt has been melted back into the magma  and soon formed back into an igneous rock.
  • Therefore, the same cycle starts again.
