The Persian Empire is expanding west and has set its’ eyes on Greece.
Battle of Thermopylae
Ionian citizens attempt to get rid of their Persian rulers. They ask the Greek city-states for help. The Greeks send help but are not successful. Darius, the Persian king, is not amused and wants to punish the Greek people.
Battle of Salamis
The Persians invade Greece by land and decide to attack Athens by sea. After most of the Persians have left on boats, the Greeks attack the remaining Persians and win! A Greek sets off running for Athens to share the news. This victory gave Greece a lot of confidence.

300 Spartans head off the Persian army on a small strip of land called Thermopylae. The Persians kill all of the Spartans and march on to burn down Athens.
The Greeks trick the Persians to sail into a narrow pass between an island and Athens. The Persian ships are too large and the Greeks in their lighter, faster ships defeat them. Xerxes retreats back to Asia and the Persian Wars were over.
