Odysseus's crew begs Odysseus to dock on Thrinacia because of the storms so he does. when they get on the island "Odysseus makes them swear not touch the god's cattle, for both Circe and Tiresias have warned him of disaster if the cattle are harmed."
The storms rage on for days and the crew grew hungry. With no more food left men became desperate. Odysseus went and prayed to the gods to make the stormes end then he went to sleep.
The storm raged on and the men were hungry. While Odysseus slept "Eurylochus made his insidious plea." He told the men it is better to die facing the wrath of the gods then to starve to death.
Eurylochus said "we'll cut the nobelist of these cattle for sacrifice to the gods who own the sky; and once home, in the old country of Ithaca [...] we'll build a costly temple and adorn in it." Thus the men went and killed a cattle.
As Eurylochus said they would, they performed a ritual to the gods. Then Odysseus woke up to find them eating the cattle. Along came Lampetia, and Odysseus ran up to her and told her that his men had killed her cattle. Lampetia in return told Helios and he told Zeus. Zeus told Helios to calm down and that he would punish the men.
Odysseus gathered his men and left the island. When they were out at sea Zeus haled a mighty lightening boat at their ship shattering it into peices. Odysseus is the only one that survived.
