Reporters Jane and John met at a cafe to discuss there news topic for their afternoon segment. The topic was about the gender pay gap and what it means in society. They sat and thought about the information they researched prior to their gathering.
Jane and John: Good Afternoon and thanks for tuning in to WKCX56 5 O'Clock news Jane: As many of you know there has been several attempts to adjust the wage gap between men and women. One of the many reasons why besides it being illegal and ethically wrong is because of the growth of lawsuits companies are facing. Many companies have been trying to locate the causes for the lawsuits and settle them.
John: Even with equal education women are still payed less and the amount depends on race. Their are laws against wage discrimination but unfortunately there are ways to get out of them. Women make up almost 50 percent of the working environment and in some cases they have fulfilled the equal pay problem but in most environments women are paid less.
Jane: In 2017 the ratio of women to men wages was 80 percent. No matter how you perceive it the wage gap does exist. According to research done by the AAUW in 2017 Louisiana has the lowest wage gap in the united states and California had the highest. John: Today the wage gap still exist but law makers and small businesses are trying to patch up some of the damage done .
Jane: The wage gap ensures that even if a women was to have just as much education as a male the male would get paid more even if they have the same job.
