In 1906 Johnny chooses to work in the mining industry to mine iron ore and make it into steel because steel back then was in high demand. Johnny is from Italy and came to America to seek a new life.
Johnny was excited indeed he was sent to St. Paul to do his iron mining and he loved the looks of the mines.
What Johnny didn't realize was that mining was a hard job and a dangerous job and that wasn't all. He worked for low pay around $1.65 and he didn't like it.
That was it. Johnny had enough, in 1907 Johnny led a huge strike around 350 people who worked in iron mines. The reason they were striking was they wanted better pay and other things, but the owners just got new miners .
Johnny and the miners that were on strike had to go back to mining, but Johnny had a reputation for leading strikes so he was fired, but the good news is the congress passed laws to make miners have better pay, work safer, and to have days off.
Johnny then became a farmer got married and had three kids, and he was never going to mine again, but he was happy he made a change were he mined.
