Welcome to another Red News BroadCast, our headlines today will be the massacres that have taken place in Colombia these months.
As my partner said, Colombia has been a country influenced by violence, but in recent months this type of attack on human integrity has been promoted, especially in rural departments such as Cauca, Meta, Huila among others.
My partner will telling you the news in more detail.
Here we are in the Sumapaz National Park located in the department of Meta. The Meta department has been one of the areas prioritized by the Colombian State to strike at the main FARC structures, and is currently one of the ten regions where the ‘Sword of Honor’ war plan is started developed.
In spite of the fact that these strategies have achieved the reduction of illicit crops and an improvement in security conditions, the department still faces a series of problems associated with the FARC, the presence and transformation of criminal gangs and drug trafficking. On the one hand, there is the traditional Ariari region, where 91.2% of the total armed guerrilla actions in the department were concentrated in 2012.
Despite the blows inflicted on both the FARC and the criminal gangs, the farmer continue to have social control, capacity for action, and the possibility of growing illicit crops. El Meta continues to be a strategic corridor for the trade in narcotics and weapons to and from abroad.
My partner, Marie, will continue telling you more about these cases of violence in Colombia.
Due to its geostrategic location, Huila connects the center with the south of the country and is the obligatory crossing of four strategic corridors: Sumapaz, the northern Amazon, the southern Amazon and the Pacific corridor; This struggle of forces for the control of the territory has resulted in a balance of 192,000 victimizing events according to the Single Registry of Victims.
Thanks, Kim. We are in the Nevado de Huila National Park, made up of a volcanic area with Páramo vegetation, especially grasslands.
