Hi there! I have interesting story... would you like to hear it? Who am I kidding, of course you would! This is the story of Ghana. How it started and ended...
The Sonkie were a group of people who came together and created an empire (Ghana) that was able to grow and flourish.
Because of the location of Ghana, it being between the Senegal and Niger Rivers, farming was excellent! It was one of the reasons that they were able to defeat other tribes. That and the iron tools that they had made.
Ghana was rich in gold and traded it for slat in something called 'silent barter'. it was a way for people to get things without having to communicate with words. As trade grew so did their amount of wealth and that meant that the empire was able to expande.
Speaking of gold.. the people of Ghana had to pay taxes, as well as merchants. They had to pay for entering, leaving and their goods. Meanwhile the king kept the gold. This isn't as straightforward as it seems though. Armies were sprawled out to protect trade routes and those who traveled on them from bandits.
Ghana expanded for many reasons but the main two are that the king had bout an armie with his wealth. The other reason for expansion was when they conquered those areas they attacked, the king would rule over them.
Ghana had there main reasons to why the empire had declined. One of them was that invasion by Muslim groups had weakened Ghana. The second reason for the decline was overgrazing as well as drought. Meaning there was little to no water or grass. Lastly, resistance against the empire and to others by the people had internally destroyed the empire.
And that's the story of the Empire of Ghana. From it's strong and steady beginnings to the troublesome decline.
