Storyboard Text

  • June 1942, Canada
  •  Since my husband went off to war I have looked after the store.
  • Ration cards were first distributed in January, 1942 for sugar.
  • Now we ration meat, milk, sugar, butter, tea, flour, cheese, eggs, and more.
  • When costumers come to purchase food we use Ration Cards.
  • These Ration Cards were put in place to make sure no one exceeds their rations.
  • When a rationed product is purchased we stamp the item.
  • Why do we need Ration Cards?
  • Ration Cards were used so we would use less products and that helps the war effort.
  • The less we use the more we can send over to the soldiers across the water.
  • Is that why the penalty for violating the laws is so much?
  • Yes, like paying a minimum fee of 400$ or getting jail time for months.
  • Yes, they are our contribution to the war.
  • So its a good thing that we have ration cards?
