After the end of the Revolutionary War the Articles of Confederation was passed. It gave more power to the state governments. This led to very strict debt laws. When the farmers could not pay back their debt their farm would be seized and they could go to jail.
We are taking your farm because you have not payed back your debts.
Daniel Shays and other farmers started having mettings and they planned a rebellion.
These Articles do not work. It is unfair to the people of the US. The state governments need less power.
In 1786 Shays and other angry farmers marched to the court house and began to tear it down.
The Massachusettes Government sent the militia to stop the farmers and send them back to their farms.
Shays Rebellion made an impact on many important people. It made them notice that the Articles of Confederation were flawed and they needed something new.
Because of the problems in the Articles of Confederation they made the Constituition which we still have today.
