An island inside the San-Francisco bay housed a maximum security prison called Alcatraz. Alcatraz was known for taking the worst inmates that normal prisons couldn't handle. On the night of June 11th, 1962, three prisoners by the names of John Anglin, Clarence Anglin, and Frank Morris would attempt to escape this seemingly inescapable prison.
The guards are clueless to what we're doing
The prisoners took up painting so that nobody would be suspicious when they asked for paint, which they would use to paint fake dummies to fool the guards or to cover up the holes they made in their cells. they spent many arduous hours chipping away through the concrete with stolen spoons or nail clippers.
Don't think it'll be easy Clarence, You Anglin brothers aren't as experienced in escapes as I am and you need to follow my lead
Just a few more hours and were home free Frank!
That night, the three prisoners got out of their cells and climbed up pipes onto the roof of the prison, and while avoiding the searchlight, they made their way to the shore. they had made a raft and three lif vests from stolen prison raincoats and nobody knows what happened after that. Some say that they drowned in the frigid waters of the san francisco bay while some say that they made it away
A raft was found on nearby Angel Island. There was also a body found in the bay that was never identified. there was also a report of a stolen car that night. The subject of what happened is still a subject of controversy and will be for many years to come
