Josie sits on a bench with her dog Sam. She is pondering life when Alan walks up asking to pet her dog.
Hello, can I please pet your dog? He looks as cuddly as a teddy bear.
Parvana heard a faint scratching sound coming from the basement. She slowly descended the stairs one by one, cautiously. With each step, her heartbeat quickened. Was her own body trying to warn her against this investigation? Would she find unwanted rodents searching for a meal? Could it simply be a stray cat searching for a warm place to stay the night? Nothing could have prepared her for what she would find.
"Parvana!" she said to herself, "This is not time to let your imagination run wild."
Frank's ideas had almost always gotten Sam into trouble with someone. His parents, his teachers, and once even his younger brother. Still, this was too important and Sam knew he had to go. He would worry about the trouble afterward. He was going. That was that, even if it meant using poor judgement by following Frank's "foolproof" plan.
Sam- C'mon! At least ask your parents for permission. The worst that can happen is they say no. If that happens, I have a Plan B. You'll see. My idea is foolproof, they will NEVER suspect anything and I promise you on my life that they will never find out! Frank
